New Bunker Fuel Supply Operations Launched at South Jetty, Colombo Port
Bunker fuel supply operations officially commenced on 22nd August 2025 at the South Jetty of Colombo Harbour, following the completion of a newly constructed auxiliary pipeline and supporting infrastructure. This significant development marks a major step forward in expanding Sri Lanka’s capabilities in the regional bunker fuel trade.
Until now, all bunker fuel operations at the Colombo Port were limited to the Dolphin Jetty, which was also being used for vital domestic fuel storage and distribution. This dual usage often created bottlenecks, hindering the smooth flow of bunker fuel supply and trade activities.
To address these challenges, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, together with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL), and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), collaborated to construct a dedicated auxiliary pipeline at the South Jetty and upgrade related infrastructure.
This strategic initiative is expected to enhance operational efficiency and support Sri Lanka’s ambitions of becoming a key maritime and fuel trading hub in the region.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Hon. Minister of Energy, Eng. Kumara Jayakody, Hon. Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Mr. Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Chairman of CPC/CPSTL, Mr. Janaka Rajakaruna, and Managing Director of CPC/CPSTL, Dr. Mayura Neththikumarage.
